Buy safely

Most of the adverts on What Deal are genuine but we can't vet all of them so it is very important to have the same common sense and take the same precautions online as you would in an everyday normal face to face transaction offline.

The following guidelines will help you stay safe when buying goods through classified ads:

  • What Deal is a local classified ad website and you need to meet the advertiser in person (this will reduce your risk of being scammed by 99%)
  • Do not pay in advance for goods.
  • Beware if the goods are cheaper than normal - If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
  • Avoid scams by dealing locally or paying with PayPal.
  • Never pay with Western Union, Moneygram or other anonymous payment services.
  • Use cash, bankers drafts or even better a credit card when possible as you're insured when paying for goods.
  • Don't buy or sell outside of your country.
  • Don't accept cashier cheques/bankers drafts from outside your country.
  • Please beware of forgeries e.g. big brand name goods, concert tickets etc.
  • Always get a signed invoice/receipt for your purchase/payment

Buying a vehicle?

  • Check the vehicle for outstanding finance, stolen, colour change, written off etc. Wether it be a Car Bike or Caravan you can do this with a HPI or Experian check.
  • Get a local mechanic you've used before to look over the vehicle for you before parting with your hard earned cash .
